          I'm not much on firearms but I recognize the L.S.30. as police markings as follows: Landjagerei (rural police) administrative district of Schneidemuhl and 30 is the weapon number.

          Just looking in History Writ in Steel German Police Markings 1900-1936 by Maus there is M1914 serial #249741 that is marked closely L.S.189. This one is also noted as 1921 manuf.

          I am sure there are others here that will be able to tell you more!

              While the 1920 is a date, it is the property mark of the Reichswehr. In 1920 a directive was issued that all firearms of the Reichswehr were to be property marked with the 1920 marking. The 1920 marking continued to be used in subsequent years. Jan still shows a G Date (1935) P.08 with the 1920 property stamp.

                I don't think that is accurate. While the 1920 stamp was applied to weapons upon national directive, it was in conjunction with the de-arming of the populace that had been left with quite a bit of war material. This 1914 Mauser was never in the Reichswehr. It was purchased and issued to the Prussian Landjagerei. There are many police issue guns with the 1920 stamp that could not all have been Reichswehr property and then somehow released or transfered to the police. Do you have any info on the directive or does Still cover it?

                  A lot of weapons had been stolen at the end of WWI, and the property mark was applied in order that any weapon found in civilian hands was stolen. Just like the G Date Luger with the 1920 property stamp, and the LP.08 with the red nine applied to the grips, the Germans were so intent upon following orders that they just marked some guns whether covered under the directive or not.

                  Or, maybe you think the 1920 property mark on the Mauser is fake?

                    No, I don't think the 1920 marking is fake. But I don't think it indicated everything marked as such was the property of the Reichswehr. Weapons obvsiously destined for the police were stamped 1920 too.

                    Is the 1920 G date in his Weimar book or Third Reich Lugers?

                      A photo of the G Date property marked P.08 is on page 22 of the Weimar book.

                        Some years ago I accessed the 1920 Reichsgesetzblatt volume and copied the law of 9 August 1920 concerning the Disarming of the German Populace. Severe penalties were put in place to force the population to surrender all military weapons for destruction with the exception of those of the Reichswehr and those needed by agencies in the carrying out of their professional duties (rough translation). That would mean the police, bank guards, train guards and so forth. Such weapons were marked with the 1920.

                              The police property markings indicate Police Prasidium Koln on the side and the later Schutzpolizei Koln on the gripstrap.
