It's a short strap inside the holster that kind of starts the pistol on its way out when the flap is opened.

The lift strap is a leather piece that is inside the holster. One end is sewn to the front body, and the other end is sewn to the flap. When the flap is opened, the lift strap actually "lifts" the pistol up from the body to allow the user ease of removing it from it's holster.
