    1912 DWM Luger value?

    Hello everybody,

An opportunity to buy a 1912 DWM luger has come up and I need some advice from some more experienced people. This is a 1912 DWM luger that comes with a 1940 dated and Waffenampt buckle hardshell holster, tool, and spare mag. Both mags do have wood bottoms. The holster is in magnificent shape and so is the luger, the luger looks almost brand new. All the numbers that I can see (on the outside anyway) are matching. Not sure about the magizines though. He also has an AC44 Walther P38 for sale and I would definitely like to try to get them both. The story that goes along with these is the guy who currently has them was in the process of trying to buy them from this old man but he passed away before he could sell them, well the daughter found his business card in the old mans jacket and called it, he tried to buy them but they were already signed up for auction. So he went to auction and picked both of them up, they were supposedly WW2 bringbacks from "Uncle Ernie" (I do not know wether the old man was uncle Ernie or not) but that's the story and I would like to know any information on the luger and the value of the set of guns here. Unfortunately pictures are not available.... Sorry.

    Many regards and thanks

    Brayden

It's hard to make a judgement without photos.

Assuming the finish on both guns is decent and original and everything but mag(s) match.....and including the nice holster and extra bits you are looking at about $3000-3300 retail for everything. Dealers will want to get everything for around $1500 so that gives you a bracket to work with. If one or both mags match on the 08 and/or if it is unit marked (more so to a "neat" unit" ) and if the finish is killer and if it was not modified for police or a hold-open.......then best case of all those worlds everything could be around $4500+ retail.

That last absurd run on sentence is why everyone wants photos!

As mentioned very tough to say without pics. IMO assuming no matching mags a realistic price is $16-2000 on the luger depending on condition and $250 holster.

Common P-38 varieties in good condition usually sell for $650-800 between collectors. Retail might be higher. If it happens to be a plum colored AC44, or in exceptional condition, perhaps two or three hundred more.

Thank you very much for the info!
                Its quite helpful

I think the luger does have a hold open but I'm not 100% percent sure. The fellow who has them is asking $2000 on the luger and $600 on the P38. This week I'll try to see if I can get the pair for about $2300. If he's willing to do that, then I'll take pictures and a better assessment can be determined. Both guns I would say are in exceptional condition, looks like they were brought back and just put away until this gentleman passed away some time last year.

                Many thanks and regards

A nice original 1912 dated P.08. Does not have the hold open added, and the sear bar has not been altered. Looks like it needs a good cleaning, but original early date P.08's are hard to find. The hold open and unaltered sear bar bring a premium to collectors.

                            Thanks for the input!
This helps shed some light onto the P.08, however I still would like to hear from anyone else and there opinions on the P.08 and The P.38. I would like to find out as much as I can about these Pistols. By the way is this a Commercial P.08 or was this one military issued?

Any more comments are very welcomed

P.08 is the military designation of the Luger adopted by the German army in 1908, and the Luger you show has the military acceptance marks and proofs of the German army.

Have you done any internet search for information?
