    German "cigarette pistol"

    Hello forum..

I just found this recently at a garage sale. The seller pulled it out of house when I asked for military stuff.

He said he had a German "cigarette pistol" that his dad brought back from the war.

I wasn't sure what he was talking about. I thought it was going to be a lighter in the shape of a gun.

I was surprised to see the P38. He then asked me what does cigarette pistol mean (since that is what his dad always called it). I said I didn't know.

I went on the net after I got it home and see that is what GI's called some captured guns that were traded for cigarettes.

I asked him what does he want. He said: $450. I said too bad the parts don't match, and that I see numbers from at least 3 different guns.

He then said... Well.... I guess I would take $300 in that case.

He also included 2 boxes of 9mm ammo. 7 rounds missing. I guess he shot a magazine threw it at one time.

    There are no import marks.

The net seems to indicate that most AC45 P38's are mismatched parts guns. The serial number is very high on the slide. Likely one of the last P38's made for the "C" block.

    Robert

Great price. Plus that holster is for German Radom if I am not mistaken.

it's a tight fit for the pistol. I didn't see P38 marked anywhere.

one flap repaired recently. Thanks Robert

It is for Radom German made holster. Which is fine this happened often.

                        cig

His father might have traded cigarettes for the pistol is my suggestion.

What you have is an AC45 factory mis-matched P38. These were captured and assembled by the GI's who captured the Walther factory in 1945.

The holster is a late war Radom holster, marked "gaq 5", without the lift strap. A good holster to find!

Definitely worth more than you paid.

                          Nice find!

                            Thanks for the help.

I have a very late war radom somewhere packed away that I posted on the forum nearly 7 years ago.

is this the right holster for it? I have two extra P38 holsters that might better suit this pistol that I will post tomorrow.

                            Thanks guys Robert

                              Robert,

A late war Radom pistol would be perfect for that holster, since it's a 1945 dated holster. Although the belt loop seems to have been pulled loose, and repaired, it's otherwise in pretty good shape.
But some will say to keep the pistol with this holster, if it came back that way. The choice is yours.
