    WW1 German 1917 Gewehr 98 Carbine?

I just had to post this. I saw it at a local gun shop and I have never seen a 1917 carbine before? The stock looks like it has been sanded and maybe some of the metal has been cleaned up and blued. I don't own it and the owner is selling it for 395.00 but I think I could talk him down a little if it's even worth it. The receiver and barrel matches each other and a couple of other pieces match each other and that is about it. The REAL reason I'm posting this is I want to know if anybody else has ever seen anything like this? Is this a rare gun, even though all that has been done to it maybe it's worth it because it is rare or is this just some bubba gun that someone has converted to a carbine? It doesn't look like that to me but maybe someone could enlighten me to what this is and how much something like this may be worth?

Okay, so I guess I am finding out that this Gewehr 98 was chopped. I don't think I would want a gun like this. If it was done back then I would say cool, but I'm more into the history and originality of a gun. Why would they do this to such a beautiful gun? It's too bad.

These were GEW 98 s reworked cut-down barrel restocked by Interarms ( from what ive read) around the early- 1980s.. Bolt not similar to an Kar 88 or 91. Id say $200.00-$225.00 if that..
