I believe the 9 indicates that it is chambered for 9mm parabellum as these were also produced in other calibres.

A little confusion there. 9 is the serial number and not the caliber, but the Commercial Artillery was serial numbered in a variety of ways. Some are serial numbered in the commercial fashion like the one shown, and some were numbered in the military fashion with a letter suffix.

Are the rear sight numbers engraved or stamped?

All the serial numbers that I found on it were stamped

The proofing (if any) is the key to figuring this one out. IMO it would be hard to impossible to explain IF that serial number is factory applied and the only number that pistol ever had......I suspect that is not the case......but I would have to see/take down the gun to be sure either way or see some really good photos posted.

I do agree with an earlier post that the long trigger bar if very interesting and either shows that this gun was "gunsmith" made up using a pre-1917 Luger or it is some kind of test piece/ tool room demo example from DWM circa 1913......but not marked or serialed as one would expect such a piece to be.

My vote's for humped up. You can see the divots in the sideplate and frame where an old s/n was ground off and polished over.

Is the snail drum and stock also humped up? Why hump something that is worth less than what you started with?

Without seeing the pistol first hand it is hard to tell what has been done and what hasn't.

Yep, I see a companion mark everywhere the serial is displayed. My question about the sights is that the early preprods were engraved. Just trying to understand how a 9 serial pistol exists with that barrel.

Guys I will try to go by there again and take better pictures being that there is a lot of questions about it. Plus I forgot to take pictures of the holster also. I separated holster to take the picture of the stock. Dealer bought it from a family after the father died. I am not sure if he asked where did it come from.
I will take close up picture of the sight with a serial number. I could made a mistake saying it is stamped and not engraving I did not look that close. Having it in the hand it did not look like a piece that is put together but also I am used to look at normal military pieces so I am not an expert in commercial pieces.
Thank you guys for your help.
                      Regards RD
