    P. 38 ac 43

Just rec'd this today. For anyone into P.38's this is a very scarce version of this model. It has the horizontal ac 43 markings instead of he stacked ac over 43. These were produced in late Oct. thru Dec. 1943 starting with ser.# 1 m and ending in ser, # 999 n. This pistol is in the n series. according to Buxton only 20,000 or less were produced. The pistol is in great shape, all matched with 99% of the original finish.

Nice looking pistol! My eyes may deceive, but it looks like there is a trigger guard eagle stamp on the right side below the slide rail. See picture 2/2 and 4/2 for the area. If so, you really have a rare gem.

Can you illuminate that area, snap another close up pic and post for review?

Unknown, it simply appears from time to time.

Come on guys, I know what rare means. I want to know what the eagle mark is-yeah I know it's an eagle but it is not an Waffenampt eagle, more like a final test proof i.e. eagle /swastika.

The meaning of the trigger guard/frame tang eagle is unknown. It appears on a few scattered Walther made P.38s. For someone who is into any extra original markings, it might add a bit to the sale price of a P.38 but, since no one knows why it was stamped, it doesn't add a lot. We can only guess that it was an indication of an extra inspection of some sort but that is a BIG WAG.

                            Regards, Leon

This ^^^. Rarity does not always equal added marketability/ desirability or value. I'm in the collector category Leon mentions: those interested by extra or unusual markings (mysteries!).
