An asterisk stamp usually indicates a manufacturing flaw or part rejection. In this case it could be a rework mark, if the flaw was correctable. I've never seen one appear on a front strap before. Perhaps the significance is a total reworking of the gun?

Sicherheitswache was indicated on pistols with the letters S.W. as found on Steyr 08/34 and some Steyr M1912s. I was not aware that early Austrian Sicherheitswache units were equipped with the P08. Certainly they perhaps received some after the Anschluss, but those would have been equipped with the sear safety.

I cannot discern the proof marks next the receiver serial number? They look to be Imperial German.

The grip strap marking is for The US sector of Berlin during early occupation.

It would help to know what the barrel markings are. The pistol appears to be a 1908 commercial with the lazy Crown/U proof as well as a military proof of the period, but the serial number placement is not commercial.

Lazy Crown/U is an East German proof.

The original lazy Crown/U was first used in the 1900 to 1908 period on commercial pistols. Check Kenyon. Used at the same time the BUG proofs were used. That is why it would be interesting to see the barrel markings.

While the Lazy Crown/U was originally used during the early Imperial era, it as well as the Crown/N were also used by the East Germans. The pistol shown above is an East German rework. Photo below of a VOPO Luger marking.

It was used on the early Lugers before there was an East Germany.

And it was used again after 1950 in East Germany.
