My First K98!! But what is it???

Learned Compatriots--
This one walked in the Odessa TX show yesterday. I decided that even tho I didn't know what I was looking at, this one might be a decent start on K98's. I knew it was somewhat different looking, as it didn't have the lug under the bbl for the bayonet, a cleaning rod, nor the gizmo on the stock for the bolt takedown. Too, the stock had been lightly sanded, but you could still see the "dirty bird" on it. I don't know one from another, and thought you experts out there could help me out---- Bill, Leon??

My guess (according to Backbone of the Wehrmacht) is a Kriegsmodell.
WaAs. should be e/623 or e/135.
e/135 parts should be stamped and phosphated.
e/623 parts should be stamped and blued.

Thanks for the QUICK reply!!! Yes, I guess that's what it must be. and even tho hard for these old eyes to read, I think the marks are as you have mentioned Steve. There are at least two different kinds.
Would there be any internal marks on the stock?? Under the metal??

The v. late war stocks lack a SN in the channel. There may be some spurious numbers under the buttplate indicating date made. Oberndorf stopped numbering their wood in late-44. Bands, TG, and florrplate are also unnumbered on v late MO K98s...

I would place the mfg of your byf45 to be Jan, '45. The wood appears sanded some as the WaA135 is light on the RS of the stock. Nice pick up...what was the price if I might ask?
