Serial numbers on Bcd 44 98K

Hello, I normally collect uniforms but have a chance to pick up a 98K.

These numbers are on a 98K but to me look different then most factory numbers and the R. Law book indicates for 1944 GW should have a 5 digit seriel number with no letter suffix.

Are the numbers post War ?.

It also has a fxo barrel which I know could be original as they made barrels for several manufacturers but just wanted to add that.

    Thank you-

Take a loup and look closer between the numbers on it now and see if there are faint numbers between these numbers.

numbers are fine,,, the surprise is the gun was NOT assembled by bcd-Gustloff, but rather by Sauer (ce). This is obvious from the font, and firing proof. The receiver should also have a E/37 above the bcd, indicating Sauer made...

Thanks, I saw another post on a BCD 4 that also was produced by Sauer and that type of serial number fits for 1944 accoding to the Law book also. I pick it up tonight. here are images of the receiver and the barrel-

Appears to be very nicely marked and all matching aside from the front barrel band so far. Thanks for the help.

Not sure if the sling is israeli etc. but it will be nice if it is uncut and all original. I used to own 10 of these, my Dad was in the war and collected German pistols and long arms. In 1991 he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given a year to live so he sold everything (he lived until 2012).

It will be nice to have another 98K after so long and I still have a nice late war cleaning rod for it.

I agree the serial number you posted at the start of the thread is fine.....Rifle appears to be nice original condition.....Stock was also made with white phenolic resin, which is a nice variation.....Bodes

Hi Bob, you were 100% correct, it is stamped on the right side of the barrel. I picked it up last night and it is very nice and was not DB cut. Barrel was very dirty but cleaned up and still is in very nice condition with no pitting.

Metal parts are all matching aside from the front barrel band.

The stock is a different SN which matches the rear barrel band and the wooden fore grip.

By 44 these were being put together with what they had so is it possible it is all in Wartime configuration with the different SN for the stock and parts etc. ?

                    Thank you again.

Sounds like the original stock may have been cut down and sporterized......The matching front band being lost in the process.....Than somebody restored the rifle with an original stock set that included the rear band...

Factory mis-matches occurred but not on a large scale....And those numbers generally were transposed or only being a few numbers off....Bodes
