This German soldier seems to use a clever method to aim and fire to the enemy, adapted to his Mauser!

it seems to be something especially made for this purpose.

These were designed during WW1, and allowed for the shooter to aim and fire their weapon without risking putting themself in harms way......I believe both the Germans and British had versions of these....Bodes

There was also one for the Austrian M.95 rifle, and the US had one of these for the M1903 rifle too.
