    K98k - unknown markings?

    On a bnz. 41, matching numbers & 100% original.

Sun (?) on the stock: http://www.nimbus1951.net/images/temp/sol01a.jpg

"S" at the sling hole (the opposite side has a "4"): http://foren.waffen-online.de/index....pe=post&id=357

    "IE" on the sight: http://foren.waffen-online.de/index....pe=post&id=356

I'd love to hear if anyone should know the meaning of these markings. Have you ever seen the sun (?) on a K98k before?

    Hi

The only sun i know is the Chinese "sunburst" emblem which was stamped on the 98k for the chinese contract 98Ks.

So maybe the stock is from one of those 98Ks.

The "sun" appears identical to the one used on the receivers of Gustloff Werke(bcd) made g43's....This would indicate that perhaps your stock was made by them ...Also the other cartouches are merely the proof stamps of the worker who performed a step in the manufacturing of the stock....Bodes

Thanks. Now let me ask an additional question on this particular rifle. The cocking sleeve is marked WaA77 and a serial number that matches the rest of the rifle. The same thing goes for the magazine floorplate. However the rest of the rifle is marked with numerous WaA623?

So Steyr used two different waffenamt codes? Why? What's the explanation for this?

P08, I did check my Law's "Backbone of the Wehrmacht" book and it states that both WaA's are correct for Steyr(bnz).....Bodes
