Shot of the trailing arm and the tool/parts box area located directly below the gunners seat.
The trailing arm is missing lid for the box and the leveling foot. The good part is the foot is exactly the same as the other two so I have a pattern to work from.

Do you have any photos of the guns? You mention "demil"; I would enjoy seeing what you have of the receivers, barrels, flash hiders, etc.

Sadly the barrels were long gone but look at post #15.

BTW: Where are these items located? Looks to be here in the USA from the photos.

Also, what records were you able to access that showed the date/location of the capture of this mount and/or the sequential serial numbers of the guns that were originally on the mount? Sounds like some very interesting research materials you have located.

A cased set of original (uncut) replacement barrels, recoil springs and other Flak 38 gun parts popped up here on this sub-Forum several years ago; I seem to recall that they were located on the East Coast of the US (maybe Long Island, NY). It was a really nice set of spare parts; I can't remember, however, whether it had 4 barrels or 2. Anyway, you may be able to locate the post via a search of this sub-forum's archives. The owner had no idea what he had, so we enlightened him a bit.

They ARE in the U.S., Michigan to be specifi

Since both of these items were originally Canadian war trophies, the place of capture and serial numbers were well documented and cataloged by the famous Capt. Mowat.

These were sent to the scrap yard in the 1960s. I recovered both of them last month prior to the scrap yard being cleaned out and sold to developers.

A million to one find.

So this is fun thing that happened.
One of the curved mantles was missing from of my mount when I found it. I never thought I'd find one and if I did, it would be the wrong side!
I eventually found a ground dug one in poor condition but it was cheap and the correct side. Worse case, I had a pattern so I bought it. I was happy.
Then I got even happier.
2 months later I was contacted by the guy who had the original shield off of my mount!! He took it 40 years ago as a souvenir and was interested in selling it.
I made a deal to buy it and it just showed up [n remarkable condition. The 2 mantles are 4 numbers apart: sn# 30017 and 30022. Maker code is juv for Donges Stahlbau, GmbH in Darmstadt. I can't read the waffenampt number as it was not stuck evenly.

What a stroke of luck that it managed to sit for 50 years in a scrapyard without getting scrapped!! But also, what travesty that it was sent there to begin with!! Congrats to the owner - a worthy project

Nice set of pics and a couple of very worthy projects. Always had a soft spot for the single barrel 20mm AA set up.

Slippery slope however as once completed the ancillairies will be next..........then of course you will need a couple of halftracks to display them on !



Please keep us posted on progress, most of us would love to but we don't have the dosh!

(Truth be told, the other half would terminate me! )

PS. As I recall there is a wirblewind being restored on utube with some decent images of the strip down. Might be of interest for you or to even contact them. I should imaging the base mount may differ from your Trailer version, but from that upwards I would be surprised if there was that much difference. (feel free to correct me anyone)
