    RC Mauser question

Is electo-penciling proof that a Mauser is a Russian capture? I'm not a big Mauser enthusiast (yet anyway) but I've owned a nice dot 44 (Brno) for about 20 years which has the last two S/N digits electro-penciled on the safety. I would imagine that's what it is but just wanted to check...anyway Mausers are fascinating.

S/N by the way is 56XXX for collectors' info.

Michael, That seems quite a time to own an RC K98k....I believe before RC's were being brought heavily into the country....Does your rifle have an "X" any where on the receiver, are any swastikas pinged out, or does it have a very black metal finish? Serial #'s on the exterior of the stock? These are generally indications of Russian captured pieces....My thoughts are maybe the rifle is indeed a communist re-issued piece...Possibly brought back by a Korean War or Viet Nam vet....As far as I'm aware, electro-penciling was only used on the German semi-automatics during WWII, not the K98k's....Hope this helps....Bodes

Well I forgot to add that it is an import and has the swazis pinged out, but there are no "X"s.

The bluing is nice and not like the usual reblue jobs one sees. If it was reblued, it's a good job.

There is a serial number on the heel of the stock but in researching this particular make (dot 44), this is normal for this maker.

I'm coming to the conclusion that it's indeed an RC although all serial numbers match, including the bolt. On another forum someone said that that isn't unusual for an 80's RC. I think it's very unusual.

Also, it has "K10" and "K13" stamped into the pistol grip underside. Has anyone seen that stamp?

EDIT: Bodes is correct; stocks were serial numbered by the Soviets

Michael, I happen to own 3 dot44 mausers and had another one previously, and NONE of them were/are serial #'d on the exterior of the stock....Some were marked however with "dot" on the toe(underneath between the pistol grip and buttplate) and upper handguard.....I believe the serial #'d stock was done by the ones who refurbished it.....Bodes
