I think someone just added the ring to tart it up
Is the end of the barrel still hexagon? If it is and all they did was force the ring over the barrel I would remove it

I have seen this type of thing done by gunsmiths of the era (1850-1870) for customers in order to thread barrel extensions on revolvers to make carbines.

Usually when seen (and it is rarely seen), the caliber is larger (like .44) and not on a .31. and sometimes fitted with shoulder stock

One would also have to be very precise about lining up the rifling in the extension with the existing barrel or the results would be worse than just using the short barrel!

thank you for your reply !
Is it possible that is an additional hunting barrel ?
if the colt charge with shotgun charge it was more easy to hunting little bird...
