    1938 S/42 Mauser P08 Luger Deactivated

I'm excited to share my first luger that I picked up over this weekend. Unfortunately the P08 doesn't have any provenance attached to it besides the RCMP papers declaring it to be deactivated. After some deep google searching I was unable to find much more than the basics; A 1938 dated pistol with all matching numbers save for the cocking mechanism, waa 63 twice stamped and the infamous imperial large eagle stamped twice which stopped post 1938, and 8.82 stamped on the barrel with a faint poor "ghosting" stamping below it. I've tried going over all the areas where there would have been an N stamped for navy but it appears that the grip has been filed down and i'm more or less wishing there to be an N. My understanding is that it was previously owned by a prop master who had it deactivated, albeit a little rough around the edges but I couldn't be happier for my first antique display weapon.

I was considering sanding down the welds to clean in up a tad. Not sure if it will work though.

Wow, they certainly went to town with the welder didn't they...!!!!
Even UK de-acts are more sympathetically done than this one.

Good luck with your next Luger Beattie.

Looks like, in addition to the welds, they have intentionally heated up the chamber and the right side of the frame/receiver to destroy the factory-original heat treatment of these sensitive areas.

I don't think the alteration was made in the UK, the OP is elsewhere.

You'll need to be very very discreet when/if you do that as the RCMP doesn't like it when you "alter" a dewat.
