    3 tan MG34/MG42 drums....

These 3 drums came out of the bush as well. Still uncleaned and definately not messed with. Normally nothing too Special, but on 2 of the drums it seems that there is a 2 tone tan on it. What I mean is that there is the Standard tan colour, everywhere the same. Then, additionally, there seems to be some spray paint in a more golden tone on parts of the drums as well. It might be only my blurry eyes, and pls correct me if I am wrong, but is this Standard tan or have These 2 drums a 2 tone camo on it? They come from an area where loads of troops from the Balkans and from the italian front retreated. No French Connection, no normandy, nothing like this.
    Any comments welcome!

Hi, thanks for your comment. My question was not primarily what there is to trust, but if this is and can be a two tone camo. This you answered as well, thanks! I do not have other pieces to compare with. That is why I posted it here, if I see it correctly, and maybe we get some pieces to compare with as well.....would be nice!

They are in very good condition for have been found in the forest. Perhaps in some kind of shelter or hide place? Two seem dated 44, what about the other?

Looks like a gray color painted over the top of yellow/tan.

Very cool find - my eyes are also not great in this respect

Hi, these were found amongst quite a few others, see pics. Not in the forrest, I never mentioned this. The funny thing is that these tan coloured ones are FAR better in condition than most of the rest. It seems that this late war painting (spray painting in the factory?) preserves much better than anything else. They were all found together at the same place at the same time.
Some other tan drums were amongst them, but of the earlier type with the nut on the lid. Those are in much worse condition colourwise as well. So my theory is that the factory tan paint was very good. Other earlier drums were painted by Hand with tan colour and this one flakes off easily.
                          Only a theory.
                          Anybody else with similar experiences?
