    Luger tool

    Hi,

I would appreciate any help on this tool. It doesn't have any markings except for a serial number. Can it be WW1?

    Thanks,

Most likely commercial as WWI ones were also proofed

Shouldn't it be unit marked as such?

Police tools were almost always distinguished by serial number only.

Most likely it's for an commercial luger since it doesn't have proof marks on it.

Luger loading tools were not proof marked. Most military have the same acceptance mark as the pistol they were issued with, but DWM did not normally apply the acceptance mark.

Johnny, I beg to differ, I have about fifteen acceptance stamped DWM tools.

What does a DWM acceptance stamped loading/takedown tool look like? I've always understood that the Crown-over-Letter marked WWI-era tools were all for inspectors working at Erfurt.

DWM tools, like Erfurt tools, are stamped with a crown over Fraktur letter. Where Erfurts stamps have three lobe crowns and no bluing, DWMs have four lobe crowns and were blued.

A lot of the unmarked DWM tools have been used to fake scarce marked tools.
