    My first P08

    Hi All,
This is my first post and wish to thank in advance all who will help about getting more info about this Luger. From the few info I could obtain it should have been produced by Mauser (42) in 1940. All parts are marked "7291" or "91". On the left side few Waa reading "655" under the eagle. Lots of markings under the barrel. Apart the new one regarding the new caliber 9X21 (due to Italian laws 9Para can be used only by Armed Forces and Police) I cannot understand what the others mean. Moreover right below the barrel there is a gothic "Z". The magazin is marked with a Waa with 37 below and the letters FXO. Also marked P08 on on e side. I was wondering if the plastic buttom is original. When I bought it it was equipped with a strange pair of bakelite grips of a type I have never seen before (East Germany?). I replaced the old ones with a pair of woodden ones. It was paid €550 which seems fair to me. Here in Italy these guns are becoming scarse and mono-numbered ones are not easy to be found.
This is not really my area and any help in sorting out the meaning of the markings would help.
    Thanks
    Paolo

Paolo, a very nice P08. The bakelite magazine appears to be original and as such is quite correct. The bakelite grips you show are Russian which would lead one to believe that your pistol is one that was captured by the Red Army.

Thank you. I guess you're right as to this one being a captured one. In the second picture, on the left, there is a "X" mark which I have seen on captured k98 as well.
Any clue about the other markings?

Your 40/42 is very nice. It has been reblued. If all matching, I would not care. The RC markings just add more history to it. Is that an import mark on the bottom of the barrel? The RC Lugers from SOG carry a horrible import "banner" on the side, something ever Thor would have problems with. You Luger is very nice. Keep the bakelite grips too.

Under the barrel it looks like a post war German Eagle over N and 9mm stamp from a "Beschussamt". It's been through a German weapons dealer most likely.

                        Grazie Captain,
Are you sure about re-blueing? Could it be just the pictures? Few paople saw it but none mentioned it might have been re-blued. Is it because of the overall color of the gun or something else?
