Walther P38 byf43

Hi sorry about the poor pics but is this P38 present any obvious signs of re finishing or post war tampering?

Described as a very good cond matching numbers no cracks in hand grips good barrel number 1931 and byf 43. It has an original finish has not been re-stamped.

Not the best photos and I would want it in my hand before buying it to be sure but from what I can see here it looks like a nice, untouched example.

Hard to tell from the photos, but do all the numbers barrel,frame and slide? Looks like somebody painted the F by the safety white. It should be red. Is the mag. proofed 135? That would be a nice bonus.

Tough to tell from photos. As mentioned, the "F" has been painted white.

Any import marks?

If you're looking to purchase this pistol, I would ask for better photos, or if you can see it in hand first. If the seller won't provide either, then I would pass on it.

From the photos the finish looks a bit rough but it may just be the poor photos. I would ask for much better pics before buying it.
I have a very nice byf 43 that I can show if I have the time.

Just below the serial number there is an unexpected trigger guard stamp, and there should be a eagle/135 Waffenampt next to the trigger/ slide stop axle but it appears tampered with. I'm suspicious this gun might be an East German or BH rework. Would like to see closer photos of the left side frame in this area to tell for sure.

The buyer has said it does have British proof stamps on it. Does that make it less valuable besides less collectible?

To most collectors it detracts its value and put it in the "shooter" category.
I would wait for a batter example, if possible. P38s dated 1943 are not difficult to pop up.

I'm not completely sure if it is digital noise in the photos or if there are finish condition issues. Overall the flat surfaces seem somewhat blotchy and there are hints of corrosion on the top cover, barrel and barrel block.

As a P-38 collector I'm cold on this one. Maybe ok for a just beginning collection or as a shooter, if the asking price is low enough.
