That is a beautiful carbine! You are fortunate to own a real piece of history. I know several guys who brought back their 1911 pistols and a carbine. It was easier if you were an officer!

A great carbine and with it being your father's is the cherry on the cake.

John, that is a really nice M1. Winchester is a very desirable manufacturer and it appears to be still in its original configuration. Have someone who knows M1's look it over and see if all the components are Winchester mfg.

Well, we know from the photos that the stock, receiver and recoil plate are indeed Winchester marked.....The rear sight also looks promising.....Personally, unless for insurance purposes, I wouldn't tear it down.... I would imagine it's staying in the family any way,.....Bodes

Yes Bodes, the only owner prior to myself was my father. And since it's always remained as issued to dad, I've no doubt all is original the way it left Winchester.

And yes, someday it will be passed to my son.

              Regards to all,
              John

Wonderful, and lucky to have gotten it home. I know as my Dad was in charge of weapons in several of his units and the loss of a weapon was a real problem at the unit level and loss of records even worse.
