P08 or P38 lanyard

Hello!

Sorry for my maybe simple question, but I´m not very comfortable with weapons.

I found this lanyard in a P08 holster (which I believe is original).

Now I´m wondering, if the lanyard is period too (holster is dated 1940) or maybe an repro item. Is it for a P38, P08 or something else?

On the lanyard are some markings visible, one is a WaA stamp (360), a 38 and the letters AE (?).

Hope to get some of your most welcome opinons! Many thanks in advance.

Just a gut feeling based on construction alone. I AM NOT a lanyard expert. The carbine clip looks period to me I have a very similar style on a compass lanyard. The use of rivets rather than stitches is unusual, but is encountered on WW2 period equipment. I have not seen the style of 'AE' you show and I can't find that maker, it does not mean it does not exist. WaA and date look ok but original stamps exist and are used today. If you did not pay a lot for it I would keep hold of it until more evidence is forthcoming. I am sure some of the hardcore collectors will comment further.

I am not an expert on P.08 lanyards but that is not a P.38 lanyard. The P.38 lanyard was made from a webbed material. Your lanyard looks like the P.08 lanyards I have seen but trying to establish originality from a picture on that item is tough. The thing I see that looks a little strange is the "360" under the eagle is unusually large. That could be okay but just different.

The aging of the leather looks like it could be okay. Make sure the leather doesn't smell like new shoes. It should have little odor or smell a little "musty". I would lean toward original unless someone else can come up with something more.

I wish I had more info on this item but they are rather rare and I don't own one.

The "AE" stamping in such pieces as double mag pouches and holsters is an indication of Portugese use. I strongly suspect that your P08 lanyard was made for Portugese use. I have one like yours that I bought in Germany several years ago and it has no such "AE" marking.

Check out this link. A P08 Lanyard for sale in the UK for about$85 looks very like yours however this dealer does not do good photos.http:
