Bill,How are these RLM related? I have several 9mm red plastic? some 9mm Chrome and what looks like a 7mm mauser round in red plastic.I bought mine from a veteran about 25 years ago,I also had the ammo crate they came in but sold it as it did not interest me.I will dig some of mine and post pics later.Jay Parisi

Bill,Sorry I commented before I saw the correct picture,Here are some of my rounds.There was only a few rifle shells and not too many chrome 9mm but I had about 100 of the red 9mm but I could only find 1 at the moment.Any idea what these were used for? Thanks Jay

Hello Jay, They are training rounds or exercise rounds..They were used to train the recuit on how the weapon functions either semi-automatic, automatic or bolt action.. and the same for the Luger or P-38 or other 9m/m auto pistol used by the Germans or the Mp38, Mp40 or other 9mm Submachine guns used by the Germans..I hope this helps you a little... They are different than blanks in the fact that they contain no powder.. Just used to show the function of the weapon.. I hope this helps some.. BIll

You have quite a website. I checked out the link to your exercise & tool cartridges, very nice. Then I checked out some of your other pages, WOW!

Below are a couple of the fluted brass exercise rounds that I have.

They are manufactured by Polte and are dated 34, 35, 36 & 39 respectively.

Here are a few plastic exercise rounds. They were made from red or black plastic, black being the less common of the two.

aux 41, ay 41, ay 41, dnb 41, dnb 41,aux 42, dnb 42 & ay 43. The ay 43 seems to be made from a different type of plastic, it has a bit of translucency to it and it did not age very well. It has several cracks in the body.
