Picked up this beauty two days ago. Standard Erma early variant, no safety and a tangent sight. EMP demilled with plugged barrel / cut bolt. It came with a 1940 dated 3 mag pouch, complete with a SS Totenkopf. Am I right in assuming that the head is a early "SS-WaA", and has nothing to do with SSTK?

Hi Bergflak,
Your DH marked mag pouch is the second I have seen. Here is a link to mine. I have it up for sale but have no idea what it is worth. I have never seen one for sale. I am posting here for observation only. I am not trying to market it this way.
Any chance of getting a picture of the back with the marker's markings?

I think that the marking is legit, I guess you already know that. I have seen these same stamps on several different items for many decades now. Given the circumstances and sources of my seeing most of these items I have no reason to suspect the marking. In my opinion that is probably a TK related marking. SOme of the items that I have encountered these on really had no weapons realted use and I can therefore find no other common denominator other than a TK property marking. The TK formation in it's early pre-war days stole so much equipment from everyone else, maybe they were paranoid about having there 'stuff' stolen as well!

Here is another one for you: The interior dividers are very soft and on mine has the scratchings from the specific magazine lock catch on top and stopper on the underside found on the Erma mags. The same pouch was obviously also used for both the MP28 and the MP41 according to pictures posted on this forum! The pictures of the Gran Sasso raiders and the SS-General during the Warszava uprise both show the pouch in use.
The "bonus" for me is that the pouch and gun has a history together!Attached Files

I am not convinced of the authenticity of the deathhead stamp on leather goods. I have had one that was on a purported KL holster with ink markings on the interior five or six years ago. The ink markings turned out to have been recently applied, as was the death head. These circular stamps have appeared over the past 10 to 15 years which is a short time in our collecting lifetime. My question is why a singular deathhead stamp for a TK unit when the stamp itself indicates nothing, not even TK. If it was acceptance, then there should be an indication of arsenal or accepting office as there was on SS-VT or even police equipment and arms. The TK stamp is nothing but a big sexy stamp that excites people. That style of pouch was used for SMGs in German service. But the Grand Sosso and Warsaw Ghetto endeavors were respectively Waffen SS and RSHA actions. Not the TK. The police used smaller 3-mag pouches with top flap secured by strap and stud and having police acceptance stamps on the reverse. The makers were Larson and Fischer, usual police contractors.
Leon, the MP41 was a combination of the MP38/40 and the MP28II chassis. I thought straight MP38/40 magazines fit? Did they have to make special magazines for it.

I completely agree with JoeW on this subject. This Dhd mark is inconsistent with other SS marking standards. Being leather, I would expect it to be marked like other authentic SS leather components. The subject Dhd marks look remarkably like the SS insignia button on early SS/VT OS caps which were not specific to Totenkopf personnel. Like JoeW, I have only seen these marks recently and remain completely unconvinced of their authenticity.

First of all, I am pritty sure that the TK is a "property mark", and not directly connected with the SS-TK Verbande. The originality of the actual stamp is undoubtably a fact, as it is shown in a picture from Bundesarchiv Koblenz. Shown on page 147 in "The P08 Luger Pistol" in the propaganda series. But of course, there will always be the opportunity for the fakers to add on, so most of the ones found today will probably be fakes.
This one comes directly from ss soldiers estate, bought from the widow, so I am pritty sure about the originality of this one!
