Got to see 2 beautiful LSR's yesterday.

Yesterday, I had the wonderful privilidge to look over 2 beautiful all matching Long Side Rail bcd4 rifles on display at a gun show (in Fond du Lac, Wi.). One with a "cad" Kahles contract scope, the other with a "dow". Everything matched, and was in great condition.

The owner was kind enough to let me handle them, and ask a few questions. (Well, make stuttering comments, anyway). It was the first time I had ever been able to see in person what is my personal "holy grail" of firearms collecting. I know I will not be likely to see myself own one in my lifetime, I'd settle for a junker to restore. Or build a repro, I guess it will have to do.
Man, those really got the wheels turning. I think I need an RC bcd4, and some repro mounts...Or a better job.

It sure was a pleasure to see them, and I really appreciate that the gentleman made the effort to bring them and allow everyone to see such a display, he certainly didn't have to. He was a very nice and approachable person, and willing to talk, I just wish I had more time to spend asking questions. I was a bit flustered, and forgot to introduce myself, or get his name, and my brother was wanting to move on!

Who was this guy? and were they for sale, or simply for Show?

Damn, Now I wish I would have went to that show. Haven't had any luck there in recent years, and it's always too crowded, so I skipped this one!

They were display only. I think he had some other items, but by the time I got to his table, I was sort of hurried. I just saw those rifles, and I got tunnel vision.

Like I said, I didn't catch his name, I wish I had. I don't even know if he's from around here.

He said he had 10 total. He also said he has a Riechspost sniper and a bunch of SSR rifles, too. I don't know if he meant 10 LSR's - if so, I give up.

You didn't miss too much, all I saw was a few nice mismatch K98s, a couple G43's, (one nice qve) and the usual RC's, etc. I saw no true matching k98 rifles. Did see a bnz45 reciever in a bubba'd stock, no barrel, for $450, I think. (Little pricey for an action and some firewood).

It was crowded on Sunday. I guess Sat. was dead because of the snow. I should have braved it.

Yea, sounds like the same old stuff. I may have seen that guy before. He usually comes to the local shows, and just shows off his stuff. Never wants to sell any of it! At the last show I went to in Iola he had 3 complete artillery luger rigs!! But of course, weren't for sale, just for display. I don't understand why people do that?
Glad I didn't miss much.
I live near Wausau currently, but I'm moving in March to Hortonville (near Appleton). I've got a old college buddy of mine who lives in Sheboygan!

I have to ask this though. What is wrong with displaying something, and not offering it for sale? Would you have paid what these things go for when they are on the market? LSRs are on the market, but textbook pieces bring very good money now.

I give someone alot of credit for taking the time and making the effort to drag this stuff to a show to help teach, and let people handle them.

There is certainly nothing wrong with displaying items and not selling them.
I just don't understand why? Gun shows are for buying and selling. It certainly was nice that he allowed Jeff to actually handle these rare weapons.
We must be talking about two different guys then, because the guy I'm referring to wouldn't let anyone near his stuff!

Like you said, it takes a lot of time to drag your stuff all around the state to every single show and you have to pay for the tables, just to show off your stuff? Doesn't make sense to me?
To answer your question would I have paid what these are worth. The answer is no, I'm not in the market right now for a LSR sniper, but I would have been interested in the artillery lugers!

My motto is, "everything is for sale..... For the right price!" Even if I have something I don't want to sell, if someone comes along and offers me a million $$ for it, I'll sell it!

Maybe I'm wrong, but why else would he hold onto it. You can't take this stuff with you! Trust me, I've seen people try that, and it has a terrible ending!!!

Hi Matt,

I know many collectors that display their collections at shows without ever selling anything.

Some do this as a 'hook.' Hoping that a vet walks in and sees on display something he has at home and then offers to sell it to the collector.

I know others that love talking about what they collect and sharing their collection with everyone and anyone who is interested. Many display for this reason only.
