    MG42 Mauser, your opinion

    Hi,

I just acquired a deactivated MG42 and wanted to hear your opinions. I already found out that the Stock is post war.

Thanks in advance for your assessment I tried to take photos from all relevant parts.

Can you post up some images of any markings that may be on the weapon, ie: just forward of the butt stock on the left hand side ? Plus, an overall view of the weapon would be helpful. BTW, the rear flip up AA sight on your weapon is missing.
    Regards
    Bern

I guess I jumped the gun (no pun intended) and posted this reply while you were still in the process of downloading the images.
Anyway, other than the butt stock and being a de act, she looks pretty good to me.

        Hello.

This Mg42 is from the producer Mauser from the year 1944.
at postwar it was used by the austrian Army (ÖBH =Österreichisches Bundesheer).
buttstock, feedtray, sling are postwar parts.Maybe the legs from the bipod too. but to say it sure ,we need more pics.
The Gripstick, bipod head, flashhider and the Topcover looks good!!!
the charging handle i can see the marking "an" for the Producer Beuttenmüller but the grip looks postwar for me.

Please make more pics from the MG42 from all sites and all markings.
and please more pics from the front and rear sight, bipod legs etc.

i think with the right original parts you can make this Mg42 in a Beauty again!!!

        Many Greetings NORDLAND

Thanks Nordland. I thought that the stock as well as the sling were postwar. 2 Things also strike me as odd:

          a) the number 1944 stamped on the bipod next to the code. Did this exist ?
          b) the vertical number /code on the end of the receiver (photo1).

However, there are so many fakes around that I was worried the items was a modified MG1 or even MG53.

I will post more photos tomorrow. Glad and grateful for all other comments in the meantime.

          Take care

          Chris
