Help Please with Gun Part

I got this with some Weimar-era German military but it might be completely unrelated. Don't even know how to begin to identify it on my own so any help would be appreciated.

It's obviously a rear sight for something as it has a gradient for adjusting elevations....Bodes

Not only does it have a slide for adjusting elevation, but the slide also moves to the left when raised to compensate for rotational drift of the bullet.
