The scope is marked Hensoldt Wetzlar 27360, Ziel-Dialyt 4x. This is the only infor I have.

There seems to be many types of Hensoldt Ziel-Dialyt 4x (in different design), but I believe they are mainly made pre-war. Although this is only my presumption, I am thinking Hensoldt-Wetzlar have switched their main 4x scope to DIALYTAN models (luminosity: 81) much before the war. But still there might be a possibility that they were still on production during early years of the war, since the name "Ziel-Dialyt 6fach" can be seen on German manual D136/2 "Beschreibung und Handhabung des handelsüblichen Zielfernrohres" dated 23 Febrary 1943 (although it is not 4fach). And from the shape of objective and ocular bell, this one seems to be one of the late models perhaps from late 1930s?
Sorry if I am only making guesses, but one thing sure is that this scope was not made under military contract. And I would always love to hear what the others know since I am always learning.

        Scope info

        Hi,
There is a gentleman on the gunboards.com sniper rifle forum that knows more about German scopes than anyone else I know. Just ask for a comment on it from "Greg." He is the best. By the way if this scope is pre war the Germans used allot of early scopes on SS rifles. I collect sniper rifles and have seen photo's of SS troopers using GEW98 snipers from WW1. The SS boys used all types of scopes, mounts etc. on early rifles converted commercially in the 30's.

I know Greg (greggdw) and I quite agree with you that he is the best knowledgeable person on old European scopes. I have learned a lot from him. He often visits this forum also. http://k98k.com/forum.htm
