s/42 1937 Luger

Hello,
I met with a gentleman today to look at some items his father brought back from the ETO. This luger with holster was among the items. He was on his lunch break and we were standing in the rain in the parking lot, so I didn't get to do a detailed inspection or take the best of photos. I didn't even get to pull back the slide to check the interior parts, though the son said he fired the pistol many years ago and it worked fine. It's obvious the pistol has some condition issues, the magazines don't match, and the holster, while complete with tool and no broken pieces, is probably only in good condition.

Based on my poor photos, would it be possible to get a fair collector to collector price so I can figure out what to offer? Luger prices I found on the net are all over the place so I can't get a good idea of price on my own as I'm primarily a medals and badge collector.

It is probably good you did not check the mechanics of the Luger because it is missing it's sideplate.

What is the marking on the tool ? Looks like an honest old Mauser but they really need to find the sideplate .

Without the original side plate this is now in the shooter category and I'd put it in the $800 range.
IMO; It would be lower except for what appears to be a pretty nice holster.

Thanks guys, we were in such a hurry I didn't even catch the side plate issue not having ever collected Lugers. I'll talk to the owner and see if he has any idea. If he has it, I'll try to get better photos and see what a pricet estimate would be then. It definitely has some condition issues and I have yet to see what the inside of the barrel looks like.

I sure hope that someone wiped it and the holster off with a dry cloth, then oiled the P.08. Otherwise, there won't be much left for you to purchase.

Looks like a Vodka ad with sprinkling of water over the gun to suggest coolness and refreshment........
Is there a reason the gun was just washed and not dried? Seriously!
