    long P08 from the grandfather

Yesterday my collector friend get this Luger from his father. His father is 92 years old and he found this pistol one day in their barn. It was hidden in straw and his father said it is the original Luger from his grandfather. FatherĀ“s time has come and before he will die he gave this one to his son. The grandfather had this Luger in WW1.
A great found I think. He want to know more about this nice gun.
Please let me know more about and what is an actual value of it?

A DWM LP.08 (Artillery) from 1917 made after they had removed the fine tune adjustments from the front and rear sight. Looks like it has been stripped of it's original finish, possibly in an effort to remove rust.

In U.S. dollars I would estimate somewhere around $1250. Looks like it would be a candidate for a restoration.

I agree as well. A no original finish Luger is not a desirable collectors item. That's too bad as I expect it's all matching.

Well I say good on you casey76.
Leave it alone, it was your grandfathers.
                    And what a story.
Such a stroke of luck, think I'd totally clean
                    out the barn, never know.

The original rust blue finish is one of the easiest finishes for the restorer to duplicate, so you are lucky in that respect. Strawing the small parts is also easily accomplished.

                        I agree.

                          Nice find, and great story.

I agree with the other statements as to value as is now. It would be a perfect candidate for a restoration. You could bring it back to it's original glory days! But that's up to the owner to decide.

I am for leaving all original guns original even if they do have wear, but the LP08 has been artificially stripped of it's original finish, and would be improved with a restoration.

                              Restore or Not?

Everybody wants a 1967 Mustang fastback...restored to original showroom.....same principle with a gun in this condition. It's not going to hurt the value with its present condition. It will be very pricey, but the end result will be a crisp looking artillery that YOU can pass on. Check out Luger gunboards in Jan Still's website. Gale Morgan or Thor are the best at restorations with rust-blued guns. Looks to me there would be minimal buffing.
