sniper K-98??

K-98 1939 maker 42...threaded holes wich was blocked by tiny screws.. They come loos ok.
Not my field..but seem like ready for a scope. Opinions please of what type i have, and is it worth invest in scope set? The rifle seem not totaly matching nr.

it looks like a turret mount set up

If you look close on the front you can still see the fine line where the original scope base ended. Holes appear as if they were for the Turret Mount, but not sure if the placement of the holes is 100% correct. And 1939 would be really early, even for a LT rifle. Would need closer inspection.

Is the rifle a Norwegian re-used/captured K98k?

Thanks for answers. Yes it is. It has the litle lion stamp and is still 7.92cal.

I think that this holes are made before, not at 1939, but well, if the price is good take it, it looks pretty good.

Look original for me . 1939 is totally correct year for this variation .


Promo is 100% right about line.



Mount is "Low Turret" in Ordnance variation . Scope is Zielvier Low Turret 90% .

Now to answer your question; is it worth investing in it?

You said the gun is not matching. Finding an original set of low turret mounts will be tough. If you do find a set, the price will be high. Also, they won't match the rifle either. The scope could be found easily, but again, won't match.

So, at the end of the day, if you find everything, you'll still have a mismatched, "put together" low turret sniper.

The "cool factor" would be off the charts! But for an investment, I'm not sure if it would be worth it or not?

I actually did this about 10 years ago. I built a K98 double claw mount sniper. With all original parts! However, when time came to sell it, it definitely was not worth the time, work, and money to do it. But it was totally cool!

Someone on this site purchased it actually! I can't remember who it was? If you still have it, I'd love to see it again.

Hi All. Thank you very much for input regarding all this. Learned a lot!
I guess it is like Matt mention (vise words), that i will think about what to do. If i will try gather parts (original or repros) for a Sniper manequeen display, or pas it further on.

The "idiot" may have been the Norwegian military when the rifle was surrendered without the scope or top mounts or even the German soldier before surrendering it. The funny thing is that this is one of the very few ordnance set up turrets that I can actually believe in! I agree about the restoration but keep good before and after photos or no one will believe it once restored.

I found a k98 in a local pawn shop, its a BCD 4, it has an extra thick left side receiver with three drilled and tapped holes. The left side receiver has been faced off
Looks like to accept a scope mount. All numbers match. Could anyone please help me with a value on this piece?
