    Strange MP40 marking?

Today I was looking at a 1941 dated MP40, and on the magazine housing it had an "Nnr 612" marking.... I'm curious as to whether this is a known German marking or post war? I unfortunately didn't manage to get a picture.

Thanks for any help or ideas

    Marking

Hello Pat, it means that this MP40 was used by the "Kriegsmarine". Gun nr. 612 of the Northern part of the Kriegsmarine fleet. Quite rare!

Wow really!?! I've never heard or seen one of those either... thanks Alex!

I don't suppose you know of/have pics of any other KM MP40's do you?

        Thanks again
        Pat

Is the N in script? Is the N of the nr in upper case?

Do the markings look like this? The example shown is here in the U.S.; properly registered pursuant to the National Firearms Act of 1934. It sold about 10 years ago via an auction house in the Northeast U.S.

I saved the photo as I thought it interesting that neither the seller nor buyer had any clue what the KM markings were. In fact, the KM-marked MP-40 sold for nothing more than a standard MP-40 would sell for (which is interesting, in that a KM marked P.08 will bring 2x or 3x what a standard P.08 fetches). My recollection is that the selling price was around $12,000 (again, this was about 10 years ago).

MG-34's were also KM marked: here is one that was owned by Dick Wray of Cincinnati, Ohio (and later sold at auction after his passing a few years ago); I can't recall whether or not it was advertised/pumped up as anything special due to the KM marking.

Thanks Alan for those pics, I knew about MG34's KM marked, but not the MP40's until now.... that is exactly how it looked though!

                      Thanks again
