    Very upset...

I was a a smaller auction yesterday that auctioned off a lot of german stuff and guns. Bidding on some of the items was ridiculous while some was okay if it was real. A SS enlisted belt and buckle went for $190 but I did not have the guts to go for it. Well any way I hung around for the guns as that is what we went there for in the first place. Unfortunately when we got there they said since we are delaware residents we could not purchase the handguns in PA. That made me mad because there was a rep from a gunstore that could have took care of transferring. There was 3 P38's. One was a all matching AC 43 and the other I believe was a barrel mismatch AC 44. The bluing was probably around 90% on them. The third I did not look at.

Any way to make a long story short the matching P38 went for $425 and the non matching a little over three. I have never been more pissed in my life. I just figured I would vent.

    Erik,

I understand your frustration. State to state laws on firearms are sometimes strange. A good example will be at the Louisville gun show next month. I don't know the complete laws, but for some reason a dealer in KY, can't sell handguns to someone from MO. Everytime I go there, I always get asked if I'm from MO or not? Or maybe it's the other way around? Who cares, I'm not from either of those states.

As for auctions, they are a risk sometimes, and it's either hit or miss with them. I've personally never had any luck at auctions,... EVER! If the stuff is good, it usually sells for astronimical prices, and if it's junk, then nobody wants it. There are tons of fake SS buckles out there, so bidding on that one would be serious risk, unless you know it definately was an original.

The AC43 that you mentioned, that sold for $425, was certainly no steal, so don't get too upset about it.

You didn't mention if there were any other rifles, holsters, or anything else to bid on? Did you get anything?

There was only 1 German rifle I noticed. It looked like a pre-war civilian K-98. I didn't know anything about it. There was a couple 1920's Lugers. a bunch of pre-WWI and later military rifles. Nothing from WWII though. There were a few holsters and ammo pouches. I missed the bidding on one pouch that caught my eye. It looked German and in the style of a K98 pouch but smaller. The only things I bought were a US 40mm deac round dated 43 and a chewed up panzer officers greatcoat. So a matching P38 at that price was not that great? These guns confuse me. If you know of any nice matching P38 for around that price let me know.

Thanks and you did make me feel a little better about the gun,

      Erik

        40 mm round

        Erik,
Would it be possible for you to post a few pics of the 40 mm round? I have several and would love to compare.

                  Isn't that a British 40mm Bofors round?

It could be. I was just guessing it was American. What would it be used in?

                    Thanks

It really made me mad b/c we went the day before the auction to scope the pieces and figure out the rules. They told us that day it was possible to buy them just would have to transfer them to a store in delaware. The next day the story changed. How do you get a curio and relic license?

                          Try This

                          Greetings All,

I recently found this link and read the information. I used the attached links and I am currently waiting for the paperwork.

                          http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting...fl03/index.asp

The article answers a lot of questions about what is a C&R and how to obtain one.

                          I hope this helps,
                          Christopher

                            http://www.atf.gov/dcof/index.htm

look for the form F 7CR (5310.16) - Application for License (Collector of Curios and Relics) Under 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44, Firearms. on the right hand side

select it and fill the small request form in this will get the forms you need, you used to be able to download the PDF but i cannot find it any more on that site.

you will also need your local chief of police to sign it ( my precinct boss sign mine and it was ok'd)

Once you have this it will open a new world however - you gotta keep records as they can visit you anytime!!

Great. I just filled out the infor for the paperwork. So I should have no trouble going state to state even at auctions buying WWII weapons?

                              Thanks guys,

                              Erik
