    Mauser HSc

I have a Mauser HSc that I would like to get more information on. I have done some digging online and have learned a lot, but I am really not 100% sure of the value, the date of production ( I belive it to be 1943-1944? ) and the history. I have read that the "L" means that it was an earlier issue, but the serial number seems to say differently. Bottom line, I am confused because I have read lots of conflicting info. Anyways, my Grandpa was a paratrooper in WW2. He captured an officer and retrieved this pistol from him. Along with the pistol, I have the officers daily journal, the officers writing pen, his flashlight and what we believe to be a patch from his uniform. I only have photos of the pistol right now and they aren't the best quality. Better photos and photos of the other items are coming soon. My Dad has the other items and is getting the photos to me. We are also working on translating the journal. It is written in an "old German dialect" according to one of my friends. I guess it is hard to translate? Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to look.[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Great pistol with a great story behind it!

Your HSc looks to be a third variation police pistol issued to para-military forces. The serial number puts it in production around early 1944 (someone may have an exact month).

I'd love to see photos of the additional items captured with the pistol. This lot would be an absolute collectors dream, consider yourself very lucky!

Thanks for the info. Photos are coming. Hopefully this evening. One concern that I have is where the finish is not on the gun. I can't tell if it has been stripped, or if it has been worn off. It doesn't look like normal wear to me.

The eagle L marking signifies that it was for the police.

The finish issues look as though they were from storing the pistol in the holster for a long time in less than perfect conditions.

Is there a way to fix that, or should I leave it alone?

            Leave it alone.
Any gun is original only once.
Anything you try to do - besides - oiling and cleaning - will decrease its value.
It's a nice heirloom, enjoy it as it is!
