Is it ok to fire a few rounds through the pistol? Or will that hurt the value or collectibility?

I personally would not shoot it.

BUT, .32 is not known for blowing up pistols. Its always a risk when shooting because of the numbered parts. The numbered parts on this pistol are on the frame, barrel and receiver. It would take something really going wrong to destroy one of those. BUT that is a risk you take.

You need to be VERY careful of the grips. I would order reproduction grips were I to shoot this piece. The grips on most of the .32 pistols are prone to breakage. The grips on your pistol are very nice, and that would ruin your day.

Once again, I would not shoot it, but if you were going to, change the grips.

Also, make sure to use the proper screwdriver to remove the grips if you do take them off. You do not want to marr and "bugger" a grip screw.

I think I will keep in its current condition, I will not risk firing it. I wondered about the grips, Bakelite material I would guess as they are reddish brown like you see on some p38 pistols.

A very nice and historical rig indeed and personally, I wouldn't shoot it either.

the red bakelite grips are not that common on these.. most are black.
then the later ones are pressed wood.

The plumb finish as collectors call it is typical of walther during certain periods.

While the Colt Pocket Hammerless .32 is a reliable and tough pistol, it is amazing how many show up with bulged barrels. Too many cheap .32's to shoot without risking damage to a collectible.

                      Pp

You guys are all correct. I will not in any way risk the condition of this gun. It is way too nice to risk any damage. I'm suprised at th interest in the piece, however, I just thought it was a run of the mill commercial PP, and was hoping to find a military waffen amt mark instead. Thank you all for your interest and information you have provided me regarding the pistol, and the veteran who obtained it.

Collectors like the reddish Trolit cellulose plastic grips.

                              PP with papers

Thanks for the kind words! Not my area of expertise, and I appreciate all the info I have received regarding this find. My first PP, yet somehow I don't think it's going to be the last!
I think I'd like to find one of the very late war versions with wood grips and mismatched numbers. Are those considered legit or just what is up with those? Thanks again all who commented,, mike
