    Mauser HSC Value

I came across someone who has a Mauser Hsc for sale....All I have are pictures....I haven't seen it in person yet, but believe it's a late war military variation.....It doesn't have the high gloss finish of the earlier commercial or military mausers....It also comes with a black holster.....Finish appears to be strong, but the guy did carve his name into both grips....This is what I've been told....I don't know how deep or how bad it looks....The black holster also supposedly has a sticker applied on the flap...I'm assuming this could be removed....What's the approximate value for a late war Hsc with holster in good/very good condition?....I believe they are starting at $500 and taking offers after....Any thoughts appreciated as usual...Bodes

depends on a few things. 1. what kind of proofs does it have-commercial Eagle;Army 155 or 655; police ; Navy marked. 2. 0verall condition, bluing, grips, bore.
    Photos would really help.

Thanks Bill, but isn't army WaA 135?....The seller sent me two photos and unfortunately neither gives those details....I will ask them a few more questions and see what I come up with....Bodes

I paid $700 for a mint late war HSc 2 years ago. It came with a holster (which was in OK shape) but no extra mag and I thought it was a fair deal. Carved names on grips, although part of the history, woule be a deal breaker for me. Please post photos when available.

recently paid around 500 or so for an Eagle L marked high polished blue police version. Which I thought was a damn good deal.

Thanks Sgt. Steiner & Brobs.....I called and inquired again about the pistol....She had a hard time reading the proof on the trigger guard, but with some coaxing she thought it was an Eagle L.....The holster had no proofs or maker stamps that she could see.....Perhaps a police issued HSC.....I'm in the same camp as Brobs and don't think I would like it with carved up grips....I'm debating as to whether I'm going to pursue....Will let you know what transpires....Bodes

The pistol is indeed a police proofed HSC.....It's in the 806XXX serial number range....The good news is the carving in the grips are not that bad....Some body might be able to steam the lettering, reducing it's noticeability....Than perhaps some light sanding....I would probably just leave alone...

Now for the bad, the sticker on the flap may not come completely off....I think it will always leave some remnants of it being there....That and he painted large initials in red on the belt strap.....The holster does have light maker marks on the inside flap.....Bodes

If done by the vet who brought it home I don't think these are terrible things....

In the last 3 years, I've seen really nice WaA 135s for around $450-650 w/o holster. An under appreciated pistol in my opinion. Eagle L's should go in the same range. Given the condition, offer $350 and see where it goes. I'd stop at $450-500.

It was at an estate sale....The veteran's family put it in along with an M3 fighting knife and m6 sheath.....

I got there early the first day of the sale and the woman said a guy had already put in a $300 offer.....She said she wasn't adjusting the $500 asking price until the last day of the sale.....But any way I showed up again later in the day....When I got back, the pistol was no where to be seen....I inquired about it and she said it was pulled because it was not registered.....Some one had told it was illegal to possess and sell w/o it being papered.....I told her to take it to her local sheriff's office and get it registered.....The next day, when I again inquired, she said somebody had paid the $500 asking price....So, that was the end of that.....The scariest part of the whole ordeal was the woman said she possesses a CPL!....She has a concealed weapons permit and didn't realize the pistol needed to be registered!.....Scary!.....Bodes
