Wooden MG15

Hello,

I came across this gun last summer and firstly wanted to share these photos with you and secondly I wanted to know if you have ever seen anything like this before either in this model of gun or in another model? I am also curious, why was it made out of wood? These guns were taken out of aircraft and also used as ground assault weapons, wood is clearly not as durable as metal.....

If you have seen something similar then I would love to see some pictures.

I have seen them in Wood and early plastic or Baklite sp. like P-38 grips...Very nice example of the MG-15..BILL

I'll look and see about the photos.. But no mater what it was made of it is only a cover..With a internal metal housing... BILL

A very low numbered MG 15, I presume ?
I remember seeing these coming in wooden boxes about ten years ago.

Of course, but not a hard wearing cover by any means, so why was it done?
