Thanks for providing the link to this auction.

Of special note to me is Lot 2165, the Buchanan-Jardine 1902 Luger Carbine. its serial number is 2 numbers removed from the Carbine I own. A thrill for me.

        Cheers,

        Ramon

Do you think the rare pieces will sell for cheap prices? From the auctions I have attended, in the past 2 years, quality arms seem to sell for high prices. I cannot understand this with the constant attacks on firearm ownership. Apparantly, these collectors are not worried.

            Hey Bob

I didn't say anything remotely similar to what you thought I did.

I was about to skip the MG34 by doing that...20,000-30,000 for an MG34? A bit too high I would think.

                Carles -

                It's like real-estate prices.

An MG34 in Europe is like a 3 bedroom house in the Arizona desert - Say that house is worth $120K

An MG34 that is on the US NFA inventory, that can be transferred amongst individuals, is that exact same 3 bedroom house except it is now located in Beverly Hills - That same house is now worth $5 million.

                An MG34 parts kit is $3-4K -
                A semi built on a real kit $4-5K -
A dealer sample MG transferable only to qualified individuals $5-7K -

But a C&R correct, NFA registered fully transferable MG34 is a very high value commodity.
It has little to do with the sum value of parts (except that they are all original), but everything to do with the paperwork that accompanies the firearm.
And how many are available in the US (on the NFA list, effectively closed in 1986), as civilian transferable items.
People are buying these things as long term commodity investments.

Now I see your point of view. It is only that I have three almost matching (except for a bolt or barrel) MG34s. They are deactivated Old Style (only three holes in the barrel) and they would never achieve 20.000€ in Europe...perhaps in working condition with a license...but those are not allowed in many countries here. The most I would be allowed is a semi auto European style (not destroying the receiver as in the USA) and those go for about 2,500-3,000€ in Germany or France.

Government mandated supply and demand are responsible for the MG prices.

You do know this auction has already ended (back in March, 2015), right? Julia's next firearms auction is October 5-6, 2015.

Yes.. I avoid looking at the catalogue before the sale in case I go mad and bid on something I can't afford. It's much easier after the sale is over to look at the offerings and think " I would have bought that.. and that.. and that."
