    Unknown rifle casing.

    Hi.

Had it for a while and no one knows what it is. Found it in a old household.
On the bottom no headstamps are visible except the star.

    Regards
    K.

Seeing the rim it might be a 7.62x54R Russian round?

        No groove on a 7.62x54 -

6.5x50mm Arisaka? (see calipers for case length, although the measure doesn't quite look right)

I was going to say .303 but it's about 55mm

What would the caliber of the bullet be? The lengh of the case seems to be 66mm

Not 6.5 Arisaka....Shell casing too long.....Might be 7.7 but not sure bottom looks Japanese....Bodes

            First two are 7.7 Arisaka....Third one 6.5...

              8x56r?

The groove looks like it could be dirt or shadow over a real groove.

Amazing how many times the Russians and Japanese have gone at it.
It would be fun to think it was a Japanese cartridge from one this old scraps.

                  Thanks for the input everybody.
It has a rim and a groove. No dirt in the groove, just shadow.
Lenght is 6,6 cm and the bullet would be 8mm.

The nearest I have found is: 8x65 R S Brenneke or 8x65 R Brenneke , but don't think it is.

                      Thanks Carles.

Maybe it is Brenneke. It looks like that one:
                      http://www.municion.org/8/BrennekeG.jpg
It also has that faint line along the rim, although my one has deeper groove.

Length and width wise it matches this one though:

Yes, that looks more like it: 8,1x66,5 R Brenneke. It seems to be a quite obscure kind of hunting ammo, anyhow:" ist eine experimentielle Patrone von Wilhelm Brenneke die nicht in die Fertigung ging"
