Are Earlier MG34's worth more than later?

    A few questions...

#1 - is the quality better in the early models? I heard that as the war went on, the machining changed very slightly, and quality was not as nice.

#2 - Are the early ones worth more?

I ask because I recently purchased an 1941 DOT, that from photos, appears to have an all matching shroud assembly (shroud, barrel, sight, etc.).

The rest is also early, but non-matching...

    Thoughts?

    TIA

    Early MG 34's

Although we only have deactivated MG 34's here in the UK the early ones do bring higher prices, particularly those with machined top covers and old manufacturer logos.

I would say that early MG34 (pre 1939) can achieve higher prices, mostly to the facts pointed above. Now, the 300 very first early produced in 1935-36 MG34s can achieve much higher than later ones, due to the fact of having the features mentioned above plus a speed regulator in the pistol grip. I have never seen one for sale, though, so I can't really say the real value...it could be comparable to the scarce MG34S/41. All the above considering a comparable state of all matching # and original finish. Other features can increase the value of an MG34 (Buttstock, shroud, muzzle variants)

So, is the MG34 in question live fire or dewat?

No real collectable value for me then. Just as parts
