    Remington 45

    Hello

    I would like to share my wife's uncle's Reminton 45. He was a B-17 mechanic in England during WWII. It was issued in WWII. It is almost mint. It had been fired only once since 1945. A friend of his fired it 20 years ago at a firing range. I do not collect weapons, but it is WWII vintage. He told me that he may want to sell it and I was thinking to buy it from him. How much should I offer?. I want to give him a fair offer.

              What a great presentation!! Your photos leave little to be desired. Too, if that pistol is as good on the inside as it is on the out, it's in premium shape!!!
              Here's what I can gather from my references---- The pistol appears to be correctly matched, slide and frame. It should have a High Standard or Flannery bbl. The serial # indicates mfg in the latter part of 1943, and correctly falls within the third range of #'s assigned to Remington Rand. The magazine appears to be correct, mfg by the General Shaver Div. of R/R. Does it have "spot welding" down the spine??
              That said, the "Blue Book" shows a 100% value on R/R's to be $1200. Yours is not quite that good, but close. I find that on these military weapons, the book is generally low. The market on them of late has just gone berserk. UP!! So, I would cheerfully give $1,000. for the weapon. If you get it in that range, you won't go wrong.

                  $1,000 is a greatdeal. I have had a hard time in this area finding very few originals. The last 2 were about 80%. They were great inside but outside was worn. Both were R/R of 43. One was at a shop for $900, the other was at Court Days in Fleming County for $700.

                  I would pay upwards of $1200 for a good .45 like the one you have pictured. They are getting fewer and fewer.
