I saw that one yesterday and I was also going to post it...My opinion is it is not original. I have never seen that maker on drums and the kind of stamping doesn't look correct to me (could always be mistaken) but the fact it is dated 1941, painted tan, without any red primer or other original paint under, the absence of rust ( but paint stained) makes me think it is not good.

The stamp 'hoz' is the code for Zada Bernhard, Myloswitzer, Strasse 27, Berlin-Kaulsdorf. thaws shop stamped a variety of different types of parts for rifles and MGs, and was active in 1941 in wartime production.
Is the claim here that the stamping is a forgery?

Yes, that is exactly what we meant when we say it is a Yugo drum.

Fortunately, forgeries and fakes with Mg related accessories are very rare in the US, and have been for many, many years with a few exceptions. The character of the stamped "hoz 1941" on the cover appears to be mostly consistent with other items that I've encountered made by the same contractor, although the spacing of the letters is wider and the numbers appear crowded. A poster below cites lack of red primer as an indication of fakery, but I have trommels acquired in the mid 1970s that have no evidence of red primer around areas of significant wear of the tan finish coat. There were no fakes of Yugo trommels being made at that time as they were hardly worth much and were abundant.
Is the irregularity of the stamp the give away here? Other indications?

                  OK, I'll explain:

Tan ordenance paint was introduced about April/May 1943. Earlier drums were painted ordenance Field-blue/panzer-grey/Blaugrau or as ever you like to call it. Most of the items were first painted with a coat of red primer, this is valid for most of items even in 1943 so, if you find an item painted tan, dated 1941 with a sloppy stamp, with no other original paint under, rust not consisten with the age...fake. If the paint is good (not this case) stamp is bad, so drum is bad. If the stamp is good (not this case) paint is bad, so repainted and not a collectible drum. In this case stamp and paint are bad, so total fake. I hope I have helped.

Could you post some of your drums?

Thanks. What is the problem with the stamp?

Right. Are there examples of "hoz" made trommels to reference in comparison to the example posted in the pic?

Thnaks Carles. I have not either, but like to have more reference for the identity of fakes than primer or wear......

                              hello,

the encoded manufacturer " hoz " has never manufactured trommel MG, so this is necessarily a bad trommel.

                              regards
