    Japanese Nambu

I was given three Japanese war pieces last year. Here is one of them. I have less than basic knowledge about Japanese items in general. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I also have the paper work that came with this piece when it was brought back by the vet. So.. What do you guys think? I believe it is an 8mm Nambu.

Looks like a great Nambu. Do the magazines and firing pin also match?

                    Thanks Bill,

I just noticed the knob also has a matching serial number (363)
ok, try not to laugh but what does LTG stand for?

Can someone translate the stamps on it? Date (Dec 39)?

serial numbers on one of the two firing pins is 936, the other (1 cm longer) has a stamp on it.

The magazines are numbered 136N and 817 with a stamp.

Can you guys also give me a replacement estimate so I can put it on my policy? The more info you guys are good enough to share with me the better I can describe it.

I apologize for knowing so little on this.

                    Best regards,
                    Terrence

                      you're right on the date.
stamp in picture 5 is basically "type 14"

LTG ()Large Trigger Guard. For the gloved hand.. In the 50s and 60s surplus arms sellers profiteriers stated that this was done so the Japanese could invade the USA through Alaska.BILL

The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

                            Hi Terrance,

You have an interesting T-14. It was made in December (12th month), 1939 as you stated.

The change from the small trigger guard to the LTG occurred in September of 1939 (14.9). The mag retainer spring (a spring installed near the bottom of the front grip strap to keep the mag from dropping out of the gun if the release button is pushed) was installed starting in January, 1940 (15.1). They also notched the mag for the spring to fit into. What you have is a transitional that is very interesting to collectors since it has the LTG but no mag retainer spring as they were only made for about 4 months.

The "N" on the one mag is an inspection mark, not part of the serial number.

I can't tell from the picture of the holster for sure but it appears it may have nickel fittings (closure stud and strap rings on the back?).

I am going to value the pistol at $450, the holster at $100 (not sure what the belt or strap is), the spare mag (nickel) at $65, the firing pin at $40 and the cleaning rod at $40. If the rounds are original they are worth about $5 each in nice condition.

That's the best I can do without examining the items myself.

                            Regards, Leon

You guys have been great!! Thank you so very much. Getting the history behind these artifacts is always so interesting. Its too bad we have to insure everything.

                              Greatest regards,
                              Terrence
