    k 98 opinions please

    I am looking at a k 98
    here is the sellers disc,
WW2 German K98k infantry rifle. This gun was manufactured in 1944 by Waffen Werke Brunn. The rifle is all matching including the bolt (and its parts), Floorplate, trigger guard, Rear Sight (and its parts), stock, handguard, front and rear bands, etc. There are No import markings on the rifle. The metal finish rates about 65-70% overall with fading on the barrel and finish wear on the trigger guard/floor plate, bolt handle etc. The stock is in nice shape, without cracks or gouges, but appears to have been lightly sanded. There are no stock proofs visible on the exterior however the barrel channel and handguard are nicely marked with the serial number. The mechanics are in good shape and the bore rates very good with sharp, stong rifling and is lightly frosted in the grooves.
    the price is 850,
the bbl is not marked with a serial no that I can see. just a eagle with swastika. but I dont know for sure as I have not asked for more photos of the bbl. what is your opinion on this item. based on the discription?

There should be markings in the stock, so you state that it has been sanded.. To many a collector this a killer and I would say that 850$ is a high number...wfg

Bill's correct...IF maker is dot, should have the "dot" stamped on upper handguard and the "toe" of the stock between the buttplate and pistol grip....Also would more than likely have an eagle/H (army use delegation) in the buttstock...If these cartouches are gone, it does affect the value greatly and $850 is a rather steep price in my opinion....Bodes

I also agree. $850 seems a little to high considering the stock was sanded. It might be a good idea to look strongly at the serial numbers on the channels. Does it come with an original sling, sight hood, cleaning rod? That could be another $100 dollar value or so. Any markings on the butt plate?

        Just my 2cents worth.

Thanks for the replies. the gun is not dot but dou, dont know if this is a difference in the stock marks. the stocks are marked with the serial no on the inside of the top and bottom pcs.
do any of you collectors have any 98s for sale? if not do you know a fair place to find a nice example? regards
here is the link to the auction. I was going to bid but decided to let this one go if it is not a good pc. http://www.auctionarms.com/search/di...temNum=6321366

I picked up a all matching 38 erma was 3 waffens near the take down, one behind the trigger for 750 from a dealer at a local gun show. Ive been looking for one now a couple years, keep looking you will find one. I think you could probabally find one all matched with sanded stock from 550-650 range.

Howell, Of course "dou" was the code for Waffen Werke (Bystrica)....Between dou & dot(Waffen Werke Brunn) approximately 1 million examples were produced in '44 (400K for dou, 600K for dot)....If this rifle was in exceptional condition, I'd say "Go For It"....However, it looks like a well used, tired rifle that is going for more than it's worth...Just my 2 cents....Bodes
