Are there any reference books re ID of bullet markings?

    Hi,

Another member of the forum, Jean-Loup, suggested I ask here about the identification of markings on a bullet I had. The photos are listed on the U.S. Militaria forum. The bullet ( not the cartridge case head stamp) had a central letter "R" with four other letters and numerals around it "A." / "R.S" / "4." / "10" on it's base.

He suggested it may well be WW1 French.

I would like to know more about bullet markings and any leads towards reference books woul be most appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Taff

I collect German WW2 ammunition by headstamp and box - primarily Kurz (7,92x33mm) -
I have found the IAA site to be the best for in depth knowledge -
(There are several members who have written or co-authored reference books on ammunition.)
You will have to look around on the site, the information there is over whelming.
They will answer any question you have on headstamps -

Yes, I collect German ammo as well. I had a problem registering on IAA a few weeks ago but will give them another try.

      Many thanks
      Mike
