Went to an auction in Fredericktown, MO a few weeks back that had a lot of German military items advertised along with a number of Mauser rifles.
I managed to pick up quite a few things (most of them fake, of course) along with this rifle . . .
It was filthy when I bought it, as were all of the other rifles, but I knew it would clean up real nice . . . and it did! I paid $230 for it, which I think is a pretty good deal. I've wanted a short Mauser for-ever. Can't afford a G33/40 but I figured I could pick up a South American shorty eventually. I never figured I'd find one of these though!
All of the numbers match . . . except the bolt . . . but the interesting thing is that the bolt is numbered "4050" with two "655" waffenampts under the handle.
You can see how short it is compared to a K98.
Can't wait to shoot this thing. I may take it out on Sunday and have some fun with it. Not going to shoot it much . . . just glad to have it in the collection.
