More photos of the mg 42 would be nice .......
the k-98 looks like an X on the receiver (half - as*ed stamped) , which seems odd for a 1944 rifle.
that is, IF it's an Russian applied X.
could not complain about either item.
thank you for sharing with us.

Don't know, if there are much to see, since it's not matching numbers or anything like that fancy... Germans were quite eager to put stamp on everything, I must say, as can be seen from the sling for example.

But if you're interested, here goes couple more:

Sharp eyes, I must confess. Rifle indeed was captured by ruskies, in Berlin I was told (no documentation, but gun was imported from Soviets to my country) and that X is made by them. I bet that gun would have very interesting story to tell, if it could talk. As many others.

You're welcome. I hesitated a lot, since I have to use 3rd party picture server, but since all the pictures uploaded to internet will spread out like the disease anyway...

Vice versa; this one has four digits, starting with 6.
With -43 production rate these two, yours and mine, might have been same time at the factory.
              Fascinating idea, isn't it?

Yes you are quite right, I thought yours was a 3 digit serial number.
I also agree, early production date so lower production numbers
so made within weeks of each other.
Your Mg42 has sent some time post war in the UK as it has the British Nitro Proof
stamp just before the 1943 date.

                Jonathan.

                  Another sharp eye...
Most of the European countries are included in CIP inspection, and that's why proof marks are added to civilian market firearms. Sad, but cannot be avoided.

                      Hello Make.
Nice that you show us some of your collection! Is it possible that you show us more pics from the MG42?If you dont want show it in the forum so write me a PM.
i have a private database where i safe all MG42 what i can find. Then these are categorized and stored according to producers.Currently ca. 1000 Mg42 are listed.
You want to know as much as possible about this MG and I think, i/we can still be a lot of information.
As jonathan I had also said that the receiver number of your MG42 has only three numbers. Because normally a four-digit number is approximately at the level of the 3 at the 1943.

That what i can see looks good.the receiver original, buttstock original but the metal band is post war and the marking too, early front sight (nice!),sling maybe for the MG34?
I hope you show us more pictures of the Exemplar!!!

                      Many Greetings NORDLAND

Do you mind me asking where you found the MG42 for sale? Private seller or store? I'm also in Finland and always looking for good sources

                        Thanks

Keep your eyes open for gun-auctions; sometimes you can get lucky.
