    Strange mark on DWM P-08

I picked up a very nice DWM P-08 dated 1916 at a little gun store today. It's all matching numbered, including the magazine!! and came with a nice 1917 dated holster. The entire rig is in 90% condition and the finish is definitely original.

There is an odd mark on it; a very faint and tiny stamp "Not English Make" on the right side of the receiver up near the rails. I've heard of this being put on lend-lease guns sent to Britain during WWII (1911A1's and Victory model SW's), but I'd like to hear your theories or information on why this appears on an apparent WWI captured weapon in immaculate condition?

    Doug,

sounds like you got a nice rig. Can you post some pics of it, and include that marking in the pics.
I'll have to ask my luger experts on this one! I'll let you know what I find out on it.

    Matt

Here are some photos of the markings. The magazine is matching numbered on the bottom of the wooden base, but I am running out of web host space so can't post all the angles. Anyone ever seen this mark on a P-08 (NOT ENGLISH MAKE)?

        Not English Make

Your 1916 P.08 was a captured piece returned to Britain from WWI. The guns offered for sale were reproofed (on the bbl) and so marked. I have seen others over the years. It would be interesting how it came to the US from England. Probably in some GI duffle. At least it was saved from being melted down over there.

Thanks Joe. That's what I thought.
