Do you know where to get purified ammonium nitrate?

Where are good sources?

I wouldn't try to use ammonium nitrate in a heated bluing bath unless you want to see a big "kaboom".....

As mentioned above, I never used it, so don't know what it might do. I've mostly used Potassium Nitrate or Sodium Nitrate.

interesting.. maybe mixing it with water makes it less or non-explosive... but in it's dry state you are asking for anything to ignite it, even a spark.

if you can get good results with the others I would use them first, personally.

Well, as far as I know, water prevents many things from going off. BTW any of these three different nitrates can be used to make explosives. When I go to buy some I get registered and the file goes to the weapon authority...just in case. They are a bit touchy about people making bombs
Anyhow, aluminium or even flour can be used to make explosives
