    Spanish mg-13's ???

    Hello to all.
Any one have a clue on German made mg-13's used by Spain ?
under contract made OR bought by them After the war ??

I found a Spanish military "user / operation " manual on line. I don't read Spanish but, seemed to be filled with good information , but the art work of the parts ,ect. was low quality. manual was dated 1945 !
I have a reproduction german manual already but, surprised to see one in Spanish.

Second question ; what happened to these.... via surplus / non use by Spain ??
    thank you. jeff H.

    Hello once again Jeff,

Spanish "Nationalist" army got their MG13s during the SCW from Germany as part of the german help. These were early MG13, with the different bolt cocking handle, and complete with accesoires, gunner pouches etc. Both regular and "kurtz" (tanker) MG13 could be found in Spain. Most of them went to scrap or sold to collector's by the early 80's. I managed to get some very nice gunner pouches dated 1935 (partly complete) and mag boxes full of mags dated earlier than 1938.

thank you for the photos And information. I don't believe I had heard about these in Spain, till I saw the manual (shows what I know).

nice gunner's pouch ! my 2 are with shoulder straps ,most likely 1938 "issue" and are empty.

There are many rare guns in Spain, due to the Spanish Republic Government buying weapons in the black market, mostly letf-overs of WWI and obsolete in other countries. Just some pics:

Post Spanish Civil War, the Spanish army bought many brand new and captured weapons from Germany.

Then there are the contract MG13s that went to Portugal, called the m938s if I recall, which have a couple minor differences from the German issue guns. I had the good fortune to acquire an MG13 double drum and am looking for a second and a carrier if anyone knows of either of these offered anywhere.
Also I would like to find a complete German issue Mg13 gunner's kit as well. The MG13 I have is registered and live, and is a Portugese example. I have all the Portugese accessories but would like to find some of the german issue accessories too. If any readers have Mg13 accessories for sale, please post me off site.

bmg17a1 , thank you for your information.
I too own a Portuguese version , not live.
I thought IMA-USA had ONE carrier for the drums awhile back ... huge money.
would love to find a drum for mine also. story goes , when these were brought in , their was many drums also but, after a few calls all were bought up , so none were ever advertised for sale.

I have 2 mg-13 gunners' pouches , neither complete & Not for sale. paid a bit on the first one back in the 1990's , 2nd one I got from a local dealer who had no idea what it was for , hence I got real cheap. Right now , no clue on maker marks or dates on the pouches.

as a side note I do own an original mg 34 double drum, found that locally for $200.00. every one at the show thought it was one for the mg-15 ,so no one bothered to even look at it.
                  my gain !

MG-13 were supplied to Spain ( Franko ) and used in the North Front by the "Brigadas de Navarra", nationalists. Those were supplied from Wermacht stock, there were no special contact. I have 1935 produced MG-13 wich came from Spain. They were deactivated in the begining of 70th ( scrapped/sold to local collectors market).
